FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH

On August 19, 2018 at approximately12:07 PM, members of the Vineland Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit were dispatched to the area of West Chestnut Avenue and Nottingham Drive in reference to a two-vehicle crash with a fatality.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu operated by Rochelle A. Caldwell, age 41 of Vineland, was traveling westbound on West Chestnut Avenue when she was struck by a 2001 Ford Explorer pickup truck. Caldwell was attempting to make a left turn onto Nottingham Drive when she was rear ended. The Ford Explorer was being operated by Juan Vazquez-Reyes, age 21 of Bridgeton. Vazquez-Reyes fled the scene of the crash but was later apprehended by police.

As a result of the crash, Caldwell sustained serious injuries. Therefore, Caldwell was transported to Kennedy Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. As a result of the preliminary investigation, Vazquez-Reyes was charged with Death by Auto and other related charges and transported to the Cumberland County Jail.

The investigation is still on going and more information will be released as it becomes available. The investigation is being conducted by Officer Paul Cifuentes of the Traffic Safety Unit.
