Fleeing Juvenile Who Threw Gun Arrested After Investigation

For Immediate Release:  December 11, 2019

 

A juvenile male, who had fled and escaped from officers investigating shots being fired a day earlier, was identified and arrested.

On December 10, 2019 at 1:13 pm, officers responded to the 1300 block of Drexel Avenue for a ShotSpotter alert.  Arriving officers located evidence of gunfire.  A description of possible suspects was obtained and provided to officers.

While searching for the suspects, Lieutenant Daniel Corcoran and Sergeant James Herbert located a male that matched one of the suspect’s description in the 1100 block of Sewell Avenue.  Upon exiting their vehicle, the 17-year-old male, immediately fled.  While fleeing from the officers, the male threw a loaded handgun into the street.  The weapon was recovered, but the male was able to escape. 

An investigation led to the fleeing suspect’s identity.  Today, Sergeant Herbert located and arrested the male.  The investigation into the shots fired is being actively investigated by detectives of the Street Crimes Unit.

 

ARRESTED:  A 17-year-old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest.

The male was released to his parent with a future court date.
