Investigation UPDATE- Suspect Arrested from December 2019 Shooting

For Immediate Release:  March 5, 2020

On March 4, 2020, a suspect wanted for his involvement in a December 2019 shooting that wounded a man was arrested.

Detective Christopher Smith conducted a motor vehicle stop after seeing Anthony Hare-Jones enter a vehicle at Chelsea and Pacific Avenues.  Hare-Jones was wanted following an investigation by detectives of the Violent Crimes Unit.  He was taken into custody without incident.

On December 14 at 10:39 am, patrol officers responded to Michigan and Caspian Avenues for a ShotSpotter alert.  Arriving officers located a gunshot victim, a 24-year-old man from Atlantic City.  The victim was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment.  Officers were provided with a description of a vehicle that fled the scene of the shooting.  Officer Kevin Perez, who was off-duty and had just completed his shift, was driving on the Atlantic City Expressway when a vehicle matching that description passed him at a high rate of speed.  Officer Perez was able to get the vehicle’s license plate, which aided in the investigation and identification of Hare-Jones.

ARRESTED:  Anthony Hare-Jones, a 24-year-old man from Pleasantville, NJ.

CHARGES:  Aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Hare-Jones was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
