Syracuse Police Adjust Response To Calls For Service

In the continued effort to be proactive against the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Syracuse Police Department will temporarily change how we respond to calls for service.

Following the protocols and recommendations currently implemented by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), State, and local health departments, we will be making the following adjustments to limit potential exposures of COVID -19 to the community and our Officers.

Officers will not be responding to non-emergency complaints, and those callers will now be directed to Tele-Serve, our phone-based reporting system, or E-Serve, our online-based reporting system. Officers may also be contacting callers via the phone when possible to address complaints. Individuals will be provided with the same type of report that would be provided by an Officer on the scene. It is important to leave a call back number when using 911.

*E-Serve can be used by going to the Department's website at www.syracusepolice.org and clicking the E-Serve tab.

*Tele-serve can be used by calling (315) 442-5207 to speak with an Officer over the phone to make a non-emergency report.

To keep both the public and first responders safe and healthy, 911 callers should be prepared to step outside of their home when meeting with an Officer. This will allow Officers to meet in an open-air environment and will enable Officers to abide by the recommended social distancing guidelines.

In addition, our Police Department's lobby is now closed to the public. Staffing has been limited, and we will not be able to accommodate walk-in complaints until further notice. Requests for records must be made over the phone by calling (315) 442- 5270.

We will continue to respond to emergency calls for service and provide all necessary police services.

We ask that the public remain calm, and thank them for their future cooperation and understanding during this time.
