For Immediate Release:  April 15, 2020

On April 14, 2020, a dispute led to the arrest of two men after they assaulted a man including striking him in the head with a handgun.

At 7:55 pm, patrol officers responded to the first block of south Bellevue Avenue for a report of a man assaulted with a handgun.  Officers arrived to locate the victim, a 66-year-old man, with a head injury.  The victim was attacked and struck in the head with a handgun after being confronted regarding an earlier police response to the same location.  Officer Richard Link, who was on the original call, responded for the assault after hearing a description of the suspects.  He interacted with them on the earlier call and was aware of their identity.

The two suspects, Khalil Swain and Shawn Harris, were both located inside a residence on the block and taken into custody.  The victim was treated on scene by medical personnel for his injuries.    

ARRESTED:  Shawn Harris, a 37-year-old man from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, and conspiracy. 

ARRESTED:  Khalil Swain, a 29-year-old man from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, conspiracy, and contempt of court. 

Both men were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
