UPDATE- Suspect Arrested in Sexual Assault Juvenile

For Immediate Release:  May 21, 2020

 

The investigation into the sexual assault of a juvenile resulted in the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of a handgun. 

On May 20, 2020 at 12:28 pm, Sergeant Henry White III, Detectives Kevin Francis and Deborah Gilmore arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male in the 800 block of Indiana Avenue.  At the time of his arrest, the juvenile was in possession of a loaded handgun.

The charges stem from an investigation that began on May 11th when a 14-year-old male reported that he had been sexually assaulted inside an abandoned property in the 1800 block of Marmora Avenue.  The suspect was in possession of a handgun at the time of the assault.  Detectives of the Criminal Investigations Section initiated an investigation that included the detectives and patrol officers conducting an extensive neighborhood canvas of the area.  This investigation was a top priority for the police department.  The Atlantic City Police Department would like to thank the community whose help was vital to this investigation.

The investigation was led by Detective Matthew Cocuzza. 

 

ARRESTED:  A 16-year-old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon.

The juvenile was remanded to the Harborfields Detention Facility.
