On June 12, 2020, a woman, driving under the influence and with a suspended driver’s license, was arrested after causing a fiery crash that injured herself and four other people.

At 5:06 am, patrol officers responded to the 800 block of Mediterranean Avenue for a report of a single vehicle crash.  Officers arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames and all of the occupants out of the vehicle.  All five occupants that were in the vehicle were injured.  They were transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, with various injuries.  All are expected to survive.

An investigation conducted by Officer Eric Knuttel of the Accident Investigations Section led to the driver, India Wright, being arrested.  Wright was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and with a suspended New Jersey driver’s license.  None of the occupants were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.  Surveillance video footage shows the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Melrose Avenue approaching Route 30.  The vehicle continues straight jumping the curb, crossing over the sidewalk and striking concrete barriers.

The Atlantic City Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
