Surveillance Personnel Locate Armed Man Fleeing Domestic Dispute

For Immediate Release:  August 7, 2020

On August 5, 2020, a wanted fugitive from New York was arrested after fleeing the scene of a domestic dispute.

At 11:53 am, patrol officers responded to the Rodeway Inn located in the 3200 block of Pacific Avenue in reference to a domestic dispute.  The 911 caller also reported that the suspect, Ramel Harris, was armed with a handgun and knife.

As officers were responding, Surveillance Center personnel located Harris fleeing the area.  He was followed by surveillance cameras as he fled on to the Boardwalk.  Detectives Darrin Lorady and Nicholas Berardis confronted Harris in the beach block of Morris Avenue.  They were able to arrest him after a brief struggle.

Harris, who initially provided officers with a fake name, was found in possession of a knife.  Harris also had an active warrant for his arrest for robbery from New York City.  Officers searched the path that Harris ran and did not locate a handgun.

Officers located and spoke with the other party involved in the dispute.

ARRESTED:  Ramel Harris, 35, of New York, NY.

CHARGES:  Fugitive from justice, unlawful possession of a weapon, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest.

Harris was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
