Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Route 30

For Immediate Release:  September 25, 2020

On September 25, 2020 at 4:27 am, patrol officers responded to the westbound side of Route 30 in reference to a possible crash.  A 911 caller reported that she was driving westbound on Route 30 when she believes that she struck something, but was unsure of what due to the extremely foggy conditions.  The caller, 53, of Galloway, NJ, continued to her residence before calling 911.

Officer Joseph Bereheiko of the Accident Investigations Section began to check Route 30 for evidence of a crash.  More than an hour after the initial call, Officer Bereheiko located a single shoe near mile marker 54.  He then located the body of a man in the marsh.

The man was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel.  His identity is not yet known at this time.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by Officer Bereheiko with assistance from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.  Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, however, toxicology results are pending.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Atlantic City Police Department Accident Investigations Section at 609-347-5744 or text anonymously to tip411 (847411).  Begin the text with ACPD.
