Police Department promotes new Captain
After a promotional process consisting of a series of tests
as outlined in the City’s Personnel Manual, Sergeant Matt Sexton received the
top score in the process, earning the promotion to Captain. Captain Sexton will be assigned to lead
patrol shift 2 beginning today. He has
been an officer with the Elizabethton Police Department since 2009, and has
served in various capacities. He has worked as a patrol officer, then as the
public housing officer, has worked in the Criminal Investigation Division as a
Vice investigator, before returning to the patrol division and receiving a
promotion to Sergeant in 2018.
Also effective today, Captain Chris Bowers began a new
assignment as the departments’ Criminal Investigations Commander. Captain Bowers has been leading patrol shift
2 since his promotion to captain in 2018.
He has been an officer with the Elizabethton Police Department since
2005 and has served as a patrol officer, public housing officer, as an investigator,
was promoted to Sergeant and served in CID in 2012, and has served as Patrol
Sergeant.
Next month, several of the police department’s
Corporals will challenge the process to be promoted to Sergeant.
