ShotSpotter Alert Leads to Arrest of Two, Recovered Handgun

For Immediate Release:  January 20, 2021

 

On January 18, 2021, two teenagers were arrested and a handgun recovered after a ShotSpotter alert.

At 3:04 pm, patrol officers responded to the 700 block of Maryland Avenue in reference to a ShotSpotter alert.  Information was obtained that two potential suspects were seen running into a residence in the 800 block of Maryland Avenue.  Officers surrounded the location and attempted to call the occupants out. 

After a short period of time Saalih Davis came out the back door.  As officers were taking him into custody a 15-year-old female ran out of the door.  Officers began to chase her and she attempted to hide in a trash dumpster.  She was taken into custody and a loaded handgun was located inside the dumpster.  Davis was taken into custody and found to be in possession of handgun ammunition.

There were no injuries reported from the shots fired.    

 

ARRESTED:  A 15-year-old female from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Unlawful possession of a weapon and obstruction of justice.

The female was remanded to Harborfields Detention Facility.

 

ARRESTED:  Saalih Davis, 19, of Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Failure to possess a firearms identification card.

Davis was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
