Officers Talk Woman Down from Wanting to Kill Store Clerk

For Immediate Release:  February 3, 2021

On February 2, 2021, a woman, armed with a knife, was arrested after attempting to rob a store and threatening to stab the clerk.

At 7:01 pm, Officers Valmir Loga and Christopher Dodson responded to Ocean Body Oil in the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue for a report of a woman armed with a knife refusing to leave the store.  As the officers arrived, the woman, Octavia Watson, was still inside the store with a knife in her hand.

The officers gave numerous commands to Watson to drop the knife who continually refused.  Watson yelled at the officers that she was going to kill the store clerk.  The officers engaged Watson in dialogue for several minutes pleading with her to drop the knife.  Watson complied and was taken into custody without incident.

The officers learned that Watson entered the store armed with the knife and demanded money from the clerk.  The clerk refused to hand over any money.

ARRESTED:  Octavia Watson, 28, of Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Watson was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
