Suspect in New York Homicide Arrested

For Immediate Release:  February 18, 2021

 

On February 16, 2021, a man wanted for homicide in New York was arrested after a cooperative effort between law enforcement.

Jameel Campbell was wanted by the New York Police Department for his involvement in a homicide that occurred in September of 2020.  Information was obtained by law enforcement that Campbell was staying in Atlantic City.   

Members of the DEA Liberty Mid-Atlantic High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, and Atlantic City Police Department’s Special Investigations Section and SWAT Team located and arrested Campbell without incident. 

“This investigation is a true example of law enforcement working together at all levels to successfully arrest a very dangerous individual,” said Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s New Jersey Division Susan A. Gibson. “During this operation all steps were taken to ensure the safety of the public, and because of the arrest of Jameel Campbell the community is much safer.”

“We are very pleased that we were able to assist the NYPD with the location of the person who is a suspect in a homicide which occurred in New York in September of 2020," said Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner.  "Effective law enforcement requires the collaboration and communication between agencies of all levels and that was demonstrated in this matter.  I want to thank all of our local, state, and federal partners for working alongside each other to capture the suspect.”

“We will continue to work together with all of our law enforcement partners to arrest those responsible for committing violent crimes,” said Interim Officer in Charge James Sarkos.  “Through this teamwork, we were able to remove a violent individual from our streets and hopefully brought some closure to the victim’s family.”  

 

ARRESTED:  Jameel Campbell, 42, of Bronx, NY.

CHARGES:  Fugitive from justice.

Campbell was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
