Suspect Arrested in Armed Robbery of Convenience Store

On May 4, 2021, the suspect in an armed robbery of a
convenience store was arrested after fleeing from officers.
At 2:31 pm, patrol officers responded to the Super Mini Mart
in the 2300 block of Atlantic Avenue for a panic alarm. Sergeant TJ Moynihan arrived quickly and
learned the store clerk had been robbed at knife point. Sergeant Moynihan obtained the description of
the suspect and the direction he fled.
The suspect stole money and other items and used tape from the store to
bind the clerkâs hands together before fleeing.
Officer Peter Calabrese located the suspect, Jermaine
Whitehurst, in the 2000 block of Bacharach Boulevard. Whitehurst fled with officers chasing
him. He was apprehended without further
incident. Officers Thomas Gilardi and
John Pyle assisted in the arrest.
Whitehurst was in possession of the items he stole from the
store and a large knife. While running
from officers, Whitehurst discarded a roll of tape which was recovered.
ARRESTED: Jermaine Whitehurst, 22, of Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Robbery,
witness tampering, terroristic threats, theft, unlawful possession of a weapon,
possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, obstruction of justice, and
resisting arrest.
Whitehurst was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice
Facility.
Charges are mere accusations, and
the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
