Man Arrested, Handgun Recovered

On June 8, 2021, a man was arrested after being observed in
possession of a handgun.
At 2:50 pm, Detectives Alberto Valles, Christopher Dodson, and
Darrin Lorady of the Special Investigations Section were patrolling the area of
Stanley Holmes Village in reference to recent shootings in the area. The detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop
after observing a male enter the vehicle who they believed was in possession of
a handgun.
After activating their emergency lights at Kentucky and
Baltic Avenues, the driver of the vehicle turned the wrong way on Kentucky
Avenue and stopped in the middle of the block.
The male who entered the vehicle was found in possession of a loaded
handgun. Tariq Smith was taken into
custody without incident. The other
occupants of the vehicle were released with no charges.
ARRESTED: Tariq Smith,
18, of Mays Landing.
CHARGES: Unlawful
possession of a weapon.
Smith was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice
Facility. Charges are mere accusations, and the accused are considered
innocent until proven guilty.
