Crash at Police Department Entrance Leads to DUI Arrest
On October 4th, 2021, at approximately 1:48am a loud crash
was heard from inside the Pelham Police Station. Sgt. Thistle walked out front
of the Police Department and found a 2008 Ford F350 had crashed from the
traffic circle on Marsh Road (Rt. 111A) at the Town Hall and Police Department
entrance. The male operator was trying to drive away when Sgt. Thistle
approached on foot.
The operator was identified as Joseph Waelter, age 51 of North
Andover, Massachusetts. The vehicle had driven off the road from the traffic
circle, hit a road sign, drove across the grass at the Village Green and struck
a tree and rock. At the conclusion of the investigation Joseph was arrested for
Driving Under the Influence. Joseph was released on Personal Recognizance Bail
and will be arraigned at the Salem District Court on October 13th,
2021 at 8:00am.
No one was injured as a result of the crash. Photos are attached. Any
