Suspect Arrested in Assault and Robbery, Handgun Recovered

For Immediate Release:  November 17, 2021

 

On November 13, 2021, a suspect involved in a robbery was arrested while in possession of a handgun and drugs.

At 1:57 AM, patrol officers responded to the Montpelier and Arctic Avenues for a report of a man that was assaulted.  Officer Jonathan Perez arrived to locate a bleeding victim, 43, of Atlantic City.  The victim had been approached by two males when one struck him in the head with a bottle.  They then began to go through the victim’s pockets demanding money. 

Officer Perez was able to obtain a description of the suspects which was broadcast to responding officers.  The victim was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment.

Officer Mailon Demby observed two men that matched the description of the suspects in the first block of south Chelsea Avenue.  One male fled and was not apprehended.  The other male, Bryan Maldonado, was arrested after being identified as one of the males responsible for the assault and robbery.  He was found in possession of a loaded handgun, more than three grams of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.

The unknown suspect is described as a Black male wearing a dark colored jacket. 

 

ARRESTED:  Bryan Maldonado, 18, of Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Robbery, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon (two counts), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (two counts), possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of CDS, possession with the intent to distribute CDS, conspiracy, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

Maldonado were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.  Charges are mere accusations, and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
