Pedestrian Struck and Killed Walking on Route 40

For Immediate Release: April 21, 2022


On April 20, 2022, at approximately 10:50 PM, patrol officers were dispatched to the eastbound lanes of Route 40 at mile marker 62.2 for a report of a motor vehicle striking a pedestrian. Atlantic City Police Department Officers Danny Rodriguez and Ivaylo Penchev, were off-duty and reporting for their shift when they came upon the crash. Officer Danny Rodriguez observed the pedestrian lying in the roadway and immediately rendered aid by administering CPR. The man, who at this time has not been positively identified, was transported by ambulance to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, where he was pronounced deceased.  An initial investigation conducted by Officers Tyler Daily and Joseph Bereheiko of the Accident Investigations Section, revealed the pedestrian was crossing Route 40 when he was struck by at least one vehicle. The driver, Laquay Reynolds, 23 of Atlantic City, stopped and remained on scene.  It is still being investigated to determine if a second vehicle, who did not remain on scene, also struck the pedestrian.  The crash is under investigation by Officers Daily and Bereheiko with assistance from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
