For Immediate Release:  August 24, 2022 

On August 22, 2022, a male wanted for a domestic violence incident was arrested and found to be in possession of a loaded handgun.

At 11:07 AM, Officer Marquez Jones observed Rakiy Newsome walking eastbound in the area of Florida and Fairmount Avenues. Officer Jones recognized Newsome as a male that was wanted from a previous domestic violence incident that occurred on July 31. Officer Jones successfully stopped Newsome at the corner of Mississippi and Fairmount Avenues. During the investigative detention, Newsome was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun at which time he was placed in custody without incident. The handgun was fitted with a high capacity magazine that was loaded with hollow point bullets. It was also learned the handgun had been reported stolen out of the state of South Carolina.

ARRESTED:  Rakiy Newsome, 20, of Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a large capacity magazine, and receiving stolen property.

Newsome was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. The public is reminded that charges are mere allegations and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
